07/07/2009 - A young man of foreign nationality who attended the Rock Werchter festival on 2, 3 and 4 July, tested positive for the A/H1N1-influenza. The risk of infection is very small for other visitors to the festival. There is no cause for great concern and the general advice given to the population when travelling abroad is to be applied here. Everyone with flue symptoms (being fever – over 38° -, coughing, sneezing, muscular or joint pain, diarrhoea), should ask his general practitioner to make a house call. In case of doubt, the doctor will have an A/H1N1-test carried out. The risk of infection is especially important when people have contact during a long period of time, in a closed space. The risk of infection is very low during short or open air contacts, at a music festival for example. In Belgium, up until now we haven’t had any case of infection after a superficial contact with a patient. The risk of being infected during a festival is not higher or lower than in any other public place. [read more]
